Curriculum Overview

When your child is educated with high academic standards through a loving support system, it provides the motivation and encouragement your child needs to succeed.

Accredited: Meets Illinois State Standards in accordance with Terra Nova testing.

Project-Based Learning: This research model is used to teach all subjects including science, math, reading, language, social studies and Spanish.

Problem-Based Learning by Professors: Math and science are taught by junior high teachers along with Benedictine University professors using a real-world problem solving technique.

Test Scores: Terra Nova scores consistently rise year to year. The longer a student stays at St. Ethelreda, the better the student’s scores are over time.

100% Graduation Rate: Our grads attend St. Rita, Mother McAuley, Leo, Brother Rice, Mt. Carmel, Whitney Young and other top high schools.

Faculty

You’ll find loving, caring and consistent role models who will care for your child like one of their own.

Mrs. Denise Spells has been Principal for 18 years. Most of our board certified faculty has served for over 10 years. Many are pursuing advanced degrees and regularly complete continuing education studies. With years of experience and true devotion to our students, your child will receive an excellent education and inspiration from our well-qualified and compassionate staff.

STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering & Math

As part of our future transition into a STEM Academy, your child’s curriculum includes access to our computer lab and Study Island, an online educational aid.

Since 2007, our Lego Robotics program has won awards in competition for three consecutive years, including a winning robot design. We’ve also added a former forensic scientist as junior high science teacher to our faculty.

Small Class Size

With an average size of 20 students, your child will receive personalized attention from teachers who motivate all students to learn and reach their highest potential.

Benedictine University Partnership/Scholarship

Our five year partnership with Benedictine University has provided a wealth of academic opportunities and resources exclusive to St. Ethelreda School. One unique program includes an in-class college educational experience to inspire junior high students to pursue a higher education.

A four year scholarship is available for St. Ethelreda graduates who attend a Catholic high school, maintain a 3.0 GPA and enter Benedictine University as an Education major.
