St Eth Team Competes in Atlanta!

St. Ethelreda Eagle Explosion’s First Lego League is making another remarkable achievement as they are on their way to the 2008 First Championship in Atlanta, Georgia for their first “First Lego League” Presentation.

There will be two presentations coming from St. Ethelreda School. The presentation will be done by Principal Denise Spells and Program Moderator Pamela Greyer is “Excite, Inspire and Engage: Key Strategies for Regional Outreach Programs.” The second presentation will engage the “Eagle Explosion” team. The topic for this presentation is “ Blogs, Podcasts, and Community Service: Extending the FLL Theme Beyond Competition”
Students having fun
The Eagle Explosions will garner knowledge throughout the conference for the upcoming competing season at the 2008 Competition in Atlanta, Georgia. The competition will occur from Wednesday, April 16 to Saturday, April 19 with thousands of teams participating in the robotics competition and presenting information about the FLL..

This is a great achievement as there have been few teams presenting at the FLL that consist solely of children. Principal Spells stated “it was an honor to be considered for the privilege to participate in the championship.” “We have really done well for our first year, and we hope to go further and do more next year.”

As a rookie team the Eagle Explosion took 4th place in the local competition this school year, and advanced to the regional competition. With continued support from school administration, sponsors, parents, and friends it is the hope that the team will go all the way to the national competition.

The Eagle Explosions are currently seeking sponsors for next year’s activities. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor please contact Principal Spells at 773-238-1757. A special thanks to Mrs. Frazier, PTO Chairperson, for this entry!

Spotlight Class: 4th Grade!

Today, the spotlight shines on 4th grade... Mr. Cooper's class!

Mr. Cooper teaches 4th Grade. He runs a tight ship, and the lesson plan today was reading and discussing "The Cricket in Times Square." Students came up in front of the class, assumed a role, and read from the dialog. It was intense and fun.

The class ended with a quiz and then off to Gym class. These 4th graders are excellent students with tons of energy! Thanks to Mr. Cooper and his outstanding 4th Grade class... our Spotlight Class!
